Hi all,

I did a cursory search to see if this topic has been posted before, and I'm sure it has but I couldn't find it right away  :-\

I have an attract mode image that is up and going great, with a bunch of systems preloaded with boxart/marquee/snap/wheel files. I know that I need to make sure that my ROM names match up completely with these corresponding filenames or else they won't be recognized and put together. The problem is, as i'm sure many of you know, any given ROMset can have hundreds of ROMs, and I wouldn't like to rename or match them all manually to their corresponding names in the image art files. My image contains a lot of titles with (USA) at the end, but all the USA ROMsets i've found so far have (U) in the filename, not (USA).

Is there a way to mass rename all files in a folder or ROMset, or adjust them all so that the (U) becomes (USA)? I know that theres a program for PCs named Fat Match, but it doesn't work on my mac, even when running it through winebottler. Are there any mac friendly ways of doing this people know of? Thanks so much,

Hmmm... Maybe you are on older version of OS X (Snow Leopard?) but with the newer versions of operating system (El Capitan, Sierra and maybe Yosemite) all you have to do is to select a group of files, right click and choose "Rename XXX files", and then choose replace text from dropdown menu.

But if you are on OS X 10.6 - this is a great rename utility

@verion -

I actually have Sierra, but didn't know that tool existed when you highlighted everything! It fixed about 60% of the ROMs when I uploaded them to my pi.

@hermine.potter -
I'm going to try this next, and see if it fixes the other ROMs as well. Thank you!

I know this might be a longer tailed option, but you can always install virtual box which is free, then download a free trial ISO of windows 10. Then use proper renaming tools like Dons hyperspin tools or others in a windows environment.

I have windows and used fatmatch, but one of the things I did is since you have multiple image folders named the same, and only one directory of roms, switch them around so your rom path is your images and your images the roms.  Then it renames the roms and you don't have to mess with multiple image folders to get them right.
