Steam sale
« on: June 14, 2015, 07:07:49 PM »
Looks like a bunch of stuff on sale at Steam. I just grabbed some things on my wishlist, a few I want to see how cab friendly they are.

Any suggestions??

PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX+ goes without saying, silly games like Dive Kick and Castle Crashes may also be good bets to try out. A few that you'd think may work well (e.g. Super Meat Boy) tend to be rather restrictive in terms of controls and don't work properly with anything other than an XBox 360 controller.

Yeah, I grabbed a couple great games but unfortunately didn't hit well with the controls. A lot are designed to work best with dual analog. No real way to know without trying it though :(

I got and enjoyed these so far (most much higher price now - might try waiting until the encore sale):

Nidhogg ($3) is an awesome/perfect cab game - but you can always go the free route (which I think I even prefer) in Eggnogg++: http://madgarden.itch.io/eggnogg
Blaze Rush ($3) - looks like a fun racer which might be good for a 4 person cab - need more testing on controls.

Gauntlet ($10) - reboot - mixed reviews. I actually really liked it, but not sure yet on the controls
FORCED ($5) - Action/Puzzler - seems really fun - unfortunately it feels like dual analog or bust
Renegade Ops ($7) - Action/shooter/driving - dual analog or bust... I think.
Trine 2 ($3) - Puzzler - almost Lost Vikings like with beautiful graphics and multiplayer coop. I don't know yet how the controls translate.

Awesomenauts ($2.50) Didn't play much yet and I believe there was a lot of controls to map.. but seems fun.
Shank/Shank 2 ($5ea) is great - but lots of button mapping.
Strike Vector ($3.50) and Mutant Storm Reloaded ($5) might be good for the shooter-freaks out there. Again, controls probably not goot for a cab.

Castle Crashers is a good suggestion - although I have not played it.

When I was using Windows, I used Xpadder to translate game controls.
With Linux it will be pretty dead easy to do the same, though I haven't tried yet since my main Linux based arcade machine uses an ipac

Yeah I use Xpadder for my cab which works great, but its hard to map dual analog to a joystick and buttons :)

Dual joystick control panel? :-)

But yeah I hear you.
Some of these games.......do I REALLY need all those buttons to play?
Plus some games only allow gamepad input.

Look at the kade device.
It will let you hook your wires up and emulates pretty much anything when plugged into the pc.
Keyboard, gamepad, Xbox controller, ect.

Arcade sticks are also a way to go - if you need analog stick (but only one) - you can harvest PCB from beaten stick (cheap) if you have your own stick and buttons.
On my Madcatz SE PS3 there is a switch that can switch stick mode from digital to analog. Plus it has programmable autofire that I love in shmups.
