Image won't boot the first time!
« on: March 12, 2020, 10:49:50 AM »
I don't know if I'm supposed to create a thread, or if it's here the right place, but here we go !

I recently downloaded the floob-retropie-attractmode-v05-23-AUG-2016 for Raspberry Pi 3B+, as it's appear to be the last version of it available and create a image using balena etcher on debian 10.

When I plug it in the RPI with a keyboard and mouse wireless combo, ethernet and a controler (tested 2 differents raspberrys, tested other images on this SanDisk Ultra 128Gb class 10 A1 sdcard XC and tested to boot only with HDMI and power), it just won't boot. the screen just stays black and do nothing (waited more then 10 minutes expecting something like file expansion or whatever)...

what can it be ? can anyone help me???

tested as well the floob-retropie-attractmode-v04-07-MAY-2016 version and the Ptiwee's Buildroot (AM + RetroArch) Image as well ...

Make sure the firmware config file is set to output video on the correct output. The pi has composite and hdmi.

how do I make sure what video output is configured as I can't even boot ? I always used HDMI with other images/OS's...
Is there some config file to edit before pluggin it in ?

Take the SD card and plug it into another device. You are using a clone of some one else's setup. You realize this?

As keilmillerjr mentions, the partition that contains the BIOS is fat32 and can be read by any OS (Windows, Linux, OSX, etc.).

Make sure your config.txt contains this line and it's not remarked out with a "#".
Code: [Select]
hdmi_force_hotplug=1

I'll also mention that your Pi 3B+ didn't come out until 2018 and you're trying to use an image from 2016. The BIOS contained in the image might not be compatible with your newer Pi. I don't know this for certain but it's possible.

Are you sure, that image is recognized correctly?
It sounds, that your RPI can't boot your image (maybe your download was corrupt?)
Check LEDs on boot
