Its possible attract mode in Orange Pi plus 2?
« on: August 23, 2016, 02:04:12 PM »
Hello i used the raspberry pi 2 version of attract mode and really run well, but i get for testing purposes the board Orange Pi2Plus, it have 2 gb ram, 4 cores at 1.6 and much more extras.

I think can run better attract more and emulation in general terms, and my question is whether we can put you in orange pi 2 plus.

if anyone knows how , please let us know, thanks.

confirmation from "exobuzz" (one of the main RetroPie devs): The problem is the mali gpu / and differences with framebuffer etc. They may have some basic support for these boards in the future, but it would likely be just ES and retroarch emulators. (ES and retroarch need to be compiled differently etc).

Would have gone for a Odroid XU4 personally if going the un-walken route, but that's a personnal choice, but usb 3 would be faster storage wise (130MB/s)
http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=705.350;wap2

http://www.orangepi.org/orangepiplus2/ " It can run Android 4.4 , Ubuntu, Debian, Rasberry Pi Image". well try that first ?
http://raspberryretro.com/a-pi-of-a-different-flavour/
http://www.orangepi.org/orangepibbsen/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=886
- "Ubuntu 15.10 with Retropie and Emulation Station (ES) ready to go."
- "Orange PI PC can install RetroPie . but only few emulator work. dosbox , dgen ,I remember"
- "if there is a fork of the retropie source for the OPiPC, you COULD ask "jernej" (https://github.com/jernejsk) for his code (or find it by yourself) for HW acceleration."

SO i get this right, you could go to something that is proven to work, but take the conscious choice of ordering something that doesn't ( "Orange Pi Plus 2", but you call it "orange Pi2Plus"???), say it's for "testing purposes" but don't test anything, do not give ANY link, and when given the feedback from a RetroPie dev, says you "need" confirmation and want me to "try it" ??? The fact i could find relevant information within 5 minutes means to me you didn't even try...

You can have maybe retropie running. use as base and maybe you can copy/use "Attract Mode" to replace emulation station...
Nearly nobody else will have this board, so you need to test, after all you bought it for "testing purposes"...

i dont have it in this moment, it takes more than 30 days to coming, its the reason for my question, i see emulationstation working in orange pi with 1 gb ram, only my question is about Atract Mode, nor emulationstation, thanks for your info, but if you need question my actituded, i prefer continue without your help, thanks.

I have raspberry for my bartop and no need other bartop but if i found a way to move with more things in Orange Pi perfectly, if not, perfect, not is my first priority.

Sorry for my bad english.

My board are in the way from China from the past week.

I can extract this from the product especifications:

http://www.orangepi.org/orangepiplus2/

·Mali400MP2 GPU @600MHz
·Supports OpenGL ES 2.0

In lubuntu, are

http://www.orangepi.org/orangepibbsen/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=53

I think is more powerfull than raspberry pi 2 (in this atract works and emulationstation) and only needs people with time and
knowledge, i think.

In the next month i have much time but not much knowledge with this, for this, is why I seek the opinion of experts.

What do you think nitrogen_widget?

Even the orange pi for $15 and orange pi plus for $19 are faster than RPI2.
looks like they do have graphics drivers that work.

I'd say since AM works on an RPI1 it will work on even the cheaper orange pi boards.
You just have to compile it.

I compiled AM on the C.H.I.P. computer but it was dog slow. video drivers are close though.
Same with pine64 board. soon as drivers work i'll compile AM on it & give it a try

However, the bannana pi OCTA-CORE board for $75 has my attention.

Harware and cost wise the xu4 is better due to usb3 2gb ram etc...
http://www.hardkernel.com/main/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G143599699669 $39 case lcd 2.5'' usb3 bridge
http://www.hardkernel.com/main/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G143452239825 $75

Here is a link on how to compile which should be most usefull to know what to do since hardly anything should vary... Search in non es version driver avail even in beta..

Thanks nitrogen_widget & ZeroQI, can be posible the use of AM, when it comes to China, Orange Pi Plus 2 (not opi2plus), I will try to compile because as I said before, I have perfectly configured in one of the microsd AM + emulators (only i used AM cards, When all is configured not need more emulationstation, or this is that i think).

For other side, banana m3 and x4 are more powerfull than raspberry 3 and than Orange Plus 2 (orange pi plus 2e its the board i ordened), the use of i do from the board, ITS near of pc (with gimp, inkscape, any games (for esta am), office suite, and see video (not 4k or 1080, its well 720), i need any very small (front of my expensive laptop and weighs about 3 or 4 kg

The reason for i select orange its price, and the more than one 1gb ram raspberry.

The two boards that you have said, are very good indeed for emulation can be perfect, because I think that could move almost the entire catalog of PSP and many games saturn in yabause (in android it is able to move many games to fullspeed machines with similar power to banana m3).

On youtube you can see several videos of Banana m3 ppsspp moving, even x4 is moving in lakka Final Fantasy Crisis Core on a large TV.

For other side, banana m3 and x4 are more powerfull than raspberry 3 and than Orange Plus 2 (orange pi plus 2e its the board i ordened), the use of i do from the board, ITS near of pc (with gimp, inkscape, any games (for esta am), office suite, and see video (not 4k or 1080, its well 720)

If I were looking for something to play alone, I stay with one of those two options: x4 or banana m3, (would have to look at the community support and ongoing projects, as this is as important as power), but at this time I needed something cheap and more ram a raspberry (if raspberry came with 2 gb of ram, the had chosen as the great community behind this device, the support given to each project and that there is always someone willing to help it is one of its greatest strengths, rather than its power or its price, but in this case I had to choose a power-price).

Sorry for my bad English

P.D.: i cant wait to try with compile AM :D

I've won an Orange Pi PC and am trying to run AM on Armbian. But I have already seen that it does not have some packages (eg libavcodec-ffmpeg-extra56) I was able to install in Ubuntu Mate 16.04 via dpkg, now I need to solve how to make AM and RETROARCH use the mali drivers, because it is crashing.

After further playing around on CHIP PC I realized I can't compile SFML with hardware acceleration on it on that system.
So i'm pretty sure if the version of SFML on whatever distro you have doesn't support hardware acceleration for that device, you are going to have a really slow front end on that device.

you might want to look at the Pegasus front end on retropie forums or RetroFE.
both use different libraries for hardware acceleration and may work.
