General / help switching to linux

ok... im done with windows. im tired of all the errors and its reconfigurings of my stuff!!
whats the  best linux distro 
ive used puppy so im not totally ignorant to linux but i could really use some pointers.

General / MARQUEES do work VERY well!!

if anyone is interested (seems years ago it was the in thing....) i got marquee on 2nd screen working in mame and attract.

mr.dos website has all the info to get it in mame. but they only work IN GAME and attract shows it in menu. so you then have it on alltimes but when you enter game it does flicker but it does work!! only took me 8 months to figure it out....

and you DONT need any special 3rd party anything. it all works and IS built in to both attract and mame.

just have to make .lay file  for mame but attract uses marquee folder.

it seems all the mames i get end up going i dont know i dontunderstand code

does anyone got a clean mame with nonag and hiscore around .191 that they can shoot my way or point to one?

General / maybe some insight: just an observation

(here i go with some useless rambling)

ive noticed alot of program conflicts on here and thought i spew some words for those as new to this as me.

this is in no way to disrespect anyone or to say noone here knows what they aredoing. just some honesty and encouragement.

1st Attract Mode needs NO other front end to work
2ND MAME , GENS  , STELLA , DAPHNE , etc works great out the box (some configuring may be needed but minimal)
3rd Attract Mode just works! lol
4th if you are using multiple f.e's then you are gonna have conflicts.( its like having 2 people argue differant sides of same coin)
THEY WILL BUMP HEADS!
5th Attract Mode seems to accept alot of off brand themes and if it doesnt then you can convert it or im more then sure someone on here will gladlly help if they can! (does have a GREAT support system here!!!)

ok i get it alot of people like to tinker. but i know some of this can be pretty overwelming. especialy if your new at this like i am.
but im just putting out there that this frontend needs NO HELP IN WHAT IT DOES. ESPECIALLY on a pi.
this front end does TRULY have so much more potential . it can front end basiclly any program if you set the args. the right way.
any ways ...

I had it working before but my HDD took a crap on me and I forgot how I did it. Can anyone help me with the
Switches I need in the args line? Or is there a better emulator for genesis then gens??

General / needing some serious help!

i dont know WTF but i cant seem to get any kind of distro to work but windows. i dont want windows i m trying to make a cabinet that is just for games and i dont know wtf im doing wrong... ive tried every one i could find . most are either very old abandoned or just garbage. groovyarcade was updated last year and comes with AM built in and thats what im wanting but it keeps giving me errors about my drive not available. something about allready partitioned... WTMF!?!? im no dummy but evidently except for this stuff.... can some one PLEASE help me out?? ive been dealing with the program side of this for over 2 weeks and im ready to smash this cab into pieces!!!

the cab is a custom build by me ... asus mb i3 8g ram (if this even matters)

groovyarcade is the last update may of 2017 x86_64

it does work just in live mode . it wont let me install to hdd. i get stuck at the partitioning part...

General / looking for a spinner??

Kensington trackball with scrollring works great for a trackball and spinner and was only 30 bucks. It does kinda jump but with some tweaking I got it so you don't really notice.  Tried it on tron and it did well. I'll update this when I get more info. I just got this today. Arknoid is next after the kiddy's go to bed!!! FINGERS CROSSED!!

General / HELP!! atari 2600 wont work

if any one can please help out... ive tried stella and z26 and I cant get any of them to work. do I need a different emulator or am I just a retard?? as far as I know I'm setting it up right but hell if I know. sorry I'm very frustrated and want to smash my cabinet right now......

i gotta sayim SO impressed with this frontend. took me some time to figure it out but i finally got it. i just have a question to ask and its not intended to be mean or ill willed but....

i see alot of hyperspin stuff and i also see alot of talent on here.
so my question....
why are you guys WASTING your time on crap already done. OBVIOUSLY alot of you got some SERIOUS talent!!
so whynot do somthing ORIGINAL ??
look imean no harm and i know im gonna get crap for this but hell man
as an artist myself I just cant understand why you would WASTE your time on SOMEONE ELSES GARBAGE!!
again its just a curiosity question and if thats what you like cool nim just thinking with allthe knowing and talent yall have try somthing other then hyperspin.. imho its overdone by other frontend programs and i think yall could come up with somthing much cooler...
i do love this fe and i love the work i see here and love the talent so please dont anyone get unhinged by this.. im just saying and its only an opinion...

i couldnt do half the stuff some of you guys do and i think it all looks badass i just think the hyper thing is over done and would really love to see some origanle stuff!!! just saying...
