General / attract-console --filter help
« on: June 07, 2021, 01:17:02 AM »
Can someone please let me know the syntax used to create rules on the CLI using attract-console --filter?

I've tried a few variations without any luck.
Can you use multiple --filter commands?

Code: [Select]
  -F, --filter <rule>
Apply the specified filter rule when creating romlist

Code: [Select]
attract-console --build-romlist mame --full --filter Category equals Fighter / Versus --output Figters.txt

General / Attract Mode + GroovyMAME - Not Switching to GroovyMAME
« on: December 06, 2018, 11:03:33 PM »
After running an outdated version of AttractMode and MAME romset I decided to upgrade with the free time I have over the festive season.

I'm running into an issue which appears that AttraceMode is not switching over correctly to GroovyMAME. AttractMode launces the ROM as you can hear the ROM's sound playing away in the background and I can insert credits and use my controls. Yes, I can load the ROM through the mame64 binary without an issue.

The last version I was using was attract-v2.3.0-win64. Has something changed with the latest version (attract-v2.5.1-win64) that I need to do differently?

I'm running Windows 7.

I read another post about this topic and the user only resolved it by going to an older version.

General / Possible variables in emulator.cfg? Want to add [date]
« on: August 27, 2016, 03:53:35 PM »
There are some MAME competitions that require you to record your MAME game play. I would like to add a [date]variable to emulators.cfg.

Does someone have a list of variables that can be added into the emulator.cfg file? Is it possible to have a [date] variable?

For example I currently have
Code: [Select]
args      [name] -rec [name]
As you can tell every time I play a game again the .inp file will be overwritten.

I thought I could use a batch script however, I don't know how to pass [name] to the batch script.

Your help is appreciated.

General / attractmode Loads Into White Screen
« on: May 19, 2016, 06:53:25 PM »
I've just rebuilt a PC to use with my 15kHz candy cabinet.

I've installed v2.0 and when I load attractmode all I can see is a white screen. (Note the intro video is off). To get around this I press TAB and add or delete a new display and everything returns to normal.

Has anyone seen this before with v2.0?

I'm running Windows XP 64 SP2.

General / Additional Info in Romlists for Consoles
« on: November 07, 2015, 10:29:25 PM »
I've just started adding consoles to attractmode and really wanted to have all the additional information like year, manufacturer, category and players included in the romlist.

What did you do to create this?

I'm using No-Intro ROM set for cartridge based consoles. The issue I have is:
  • Generating a romlist with attractmode doesn't obtain this information.
  • The No-Intro DAT file doesn't contain this information

I read where @akafox created his own NEScatver.ini file. Thats a great idea. Like he mentions it can be a lot of work. It may not work for me as I would have to do a bunch of renaming because of the No-Intro title format.

I'm wondering what solutions people have come up with?

  • Does "Scrape Artwork" complete it? (testing now)
  • Can you scrape or another website to get this?
  • Use a HypserSpin XML file ( and obtain the information from their? (I'm still trying to come up with an excel statement to do this. The HyperSpin XML's don't contain the number of players.

General / Tags

Is it possible to create a filter based on the tag file name rather than the contents in it? From my testing the answer is no, and it is easy enough to use a regular expression, just wondering if there is some other way?
Now I'm just using tag contains kof or tag contains mk or just using name contains mk.

e.g. tag layout is.

I thought another method would be to use the "Extra" tag in the romlist file. What typical information do you put in extra?
My example of using it would be like..
then write a filter Extra equals MK.

General / ws2_32.dll Missing
« on: October 29, 2015, 09:44:37 PM »
Has anyone had any issues with "ws2_32.dll Missing" error? I am running Win XP 64.

I haven't had a chance to download the dll and just drop it in as yet. I was wondering if there was a specific package I should ensure I have installed. Is this DLL part of Windows Terminal Server?
