It would help if you showed a picture or a video.

I took the Mona Lisa and made her look better, but no pictures of what I am talking about.

Scripting / Re: Change the background when changing systems
« on: March 30, 2022, 07:16:33 AM »
The best way of doing this, is to find a skin that does what you want, and then have a look at the nutfile to see how it is done.

I just checked one of mine, and this should be similar to what you want it to do

if ( my_config["big_art"] == "Snap" )

{
local snap = fe.add_artwork("snap", flx*0, fly*0, flw, flh);
snap.preserve_aspect_ratio = false;
}

Just replace the snap for background or what other artwork you want.

It should all change when you switch to a new system, just make sure you have the following

Emulator : Sega Megadrive
Artwork : Sega Megadrive.jpg .png etc

If you have named it wrongly such as Sega Mega Drive.jpg then it will not show, so check your spellings and images.

However, a nut file would help as well, just to see what you are trying to do, as long as it is in English that is.

Oops then I'm out.. LOL thanks for the tip Mark!  ;D

I would still give it a go, if it is your kind of skin, as I say you do not need to use the cardass part of it, that can be removed. You are still left with a modern, gorgeous looking front end.

Yes it has a learning curve on how to set it up, it does not come out the box like it does on the video, but once you have it reasonably set up then it does look attractive.

I would call this lunchbox but on steroids as it reminds me a lot of the free front end skin of lunchbox but in a more modern way and much more colourful. I am potentially going to use this on my cinema PC at some point in the future, with just the best games on every system. However, for me on an arcade cabinet it does not make me feel like I am at an arcade, but overall the skin is beautiful, and well developed.

Try the internet archive

I did do a search and there were some listings for cardass, I also done a google search and it is a Japanese company where you purchase these packs from.

Yes it looks good in the demo, but pretty much unless you are really into that kind of thing, then to me it is like having toilet paper appear on your monitor, a waste of time as you can't wipe your backside with it.

I have a sneaky feeling that Kent might be from Japan, or if not has a love of Manga and Anime from a lot of his designs.

However, the card system can be used or ignored really, I don't think that it is crucial to how the skin operates.

First : Make sure that you have the bios files needed in Retro Arch\System
Second : Make sure that you have installed the Duck Station core and pointed to your PS 1 roms.
Third : Do a test load from within RetroArch to make sure that the rom loads.

Fourth : In Attract Mode

Executable : Point to your RA set up folder making sure you use retroarch.exe at the end (always check skelling errors) In my case C:\Emulators\RetroArch\retroarch.exe
Arguments : -L "cores\duckstation_libretro.dll" "[romfilename]"
Rom Extensions : .zip;.chd;.bin and whatever else you have, if you only have .chd then no need for all the rest

All your other paths for art etc will be from your end so waste of time me listing those lot

Fifth : If things do not work, go back and check for any spelling mistakes, that you have added the .exe or ;

Hope this helps someone out, and saves having to go through a long list of threads just to get to one emulator. I think the other lists use expse or however you spell it and not RA.

Just to add if you do get any errors if you are using zip files, these might need to be unpacked or another PS1 core to be used.

I dont find in anywhere eCarddass??? this is a emulator? where i found the cards???????  :o

You need to read from the start on threads, however, this is a pretty hard one for newbies to set up. This is for the ecards from page 1

Setup Guide III (eCarddass)

1. attract cfg file setup sample
Code: [Select]
display   CARDDASS
   layout               GAMERS_CARDDASS
   romlist              CARDDASS
   in_cycle             yes
   in_menu              yes
   filter               All
   filter               Favourites
      rule                 Favourite equals 1

2. Emulators cfg file setup sample
Code: [Select]
artwork    flyer           ..\am\emu\CARDDASS\flyer
artwork    flyerhv         ..\am\emu\CARDDASS\flyerHori;..\am\emu\CARDDASS\flyerVert
artwork    flyerhvs        ..\am\emu\CARDDASS\flyerHori;..\am\emu\CARDDASS\flyerVert

3. Handle of Cards
a. Put all cards to ..\CARDDASS\flyer
b. Copy all Vertical cards to ..\CARDDASS\flyerVert
c. Copy all Horizontal cards to ..\CARDDASS\flyerHori , then using photo batch tool to rotation all cards to +90 degree, it means let Horizontal cards to Vertical.

4. Setup background music for each system
You may put mp3 background music in ..\layouts\GAMERS_DEFAULT\bgMusic folder and the file name is same as each system name.

5. Disable Confirm Favourites
Tab-> General-> Confirm Favourites-> No

6. Apply CARDDASS Display
Tab-> Displays-> [SYSTEM]-> Layout-> Select "GAMERS_CARDDASS" Layout

7. Setup key to open Carddass Station
Tab-> Displays-> CARDDASS-> Layout-> Layout Options-> set Controls key to open carddass station

8. Setup Screen Saver
Tab-> Displays-> CARDDASS-> Layout-> Layout Options-> set Screen Saver timeout value as you like

Yeah if retroarch works its good, retroarch its easy operate... but retroarch dont have support for 6001... ok i will try and continue study the whay to make 6001 works!!

currently doing 2,900 PS1 Japan Roms

I dont understand this... you doing 2.900 PS japan roms???

Any way thanks again!

It means that I am busy doing other systems so my PC is tied up, downloading torrents, unzipping things, compressing things, moving things, so all my CPU resources, time and brain power are maxed out.

I do one system at a time, and try and get that as perfect as I can, but sometimes different systems can take days or even weeks to complete. Also systems such as the Playstation 1 I have Europe, USA and Jap games to do so that is three times the work. I also do custom artwork for my collections, so that is another time factor on how fast I can do things.

Themes / Re: CoinOps theme based on CoinOps emulator for XBox classic
« on: March 26, 2022, 10:46:31 AM »
nice theme..is their a wide screen version coming soon

I would like to know this as well, or some pointers on how to modify this for wide screen myself.

The original thread was started in 2015, the last post was made in 2017 this is pretty much a dead thread.

It would be very easy to mod, even if you have no experience. It is just basic theme with artwork.

The backdrop-list is 640 x 480

The layout.nut is very basic, you just need to resize the lot to 1920 x 1080 and make a few basic adjustments

It would take 30 minutes if not less to get this into widescreen, it is nothing special.

It is a great theme for a newbie to learn how to code a theme, so if you have basic knowledge it would not take long to modify.

You really need to look at the the dates and see the 120 days since someone has commented, sometimes that can be ignored, but on a theme this old then usually it is dead.

The link still works, but development never went past that stage.

However, just to add I might look at this myself and make it wide screen, as I had done something similar but as a rom checker. It was just a quick and custom edit, this might actually be better as it is longer list, but I would have to edit a few options and maybe change the graphics, but as I say it would only take about 30 minutes if that.

Yeah it is not going to be big, but it is time scale and list of priorities.

If it was a quick two minute try and succeed then it would be different, but if it is a try and fail, then it will frustrate me and even if it took days to try and succeed, then that is time that I do not currently have. If it was a system that I actually wanted to do anyway, then that would have been another matter.

At the moment I have X amount of systems to set up, and currently doing 2,900 PS1 Japan Roms

This is about the 1,000th thing on my list to do, in that I may never get around to ever doing this system, or if I do it might be ten years before I touch this.

However, you really need to look at the Amstrad CPC and other tape based systems, that really is the only help that I can give you on this system.

It just does not even come close to my radar to do, e.g it is a system that I have never used, heard of etc.

Hermintage Potter or however you spell his name, has not been on for a while, or AKAFox, they would have been your best people to have tried this for you.

Hopefully if they have the time to try this, then they might be able to get it up and running for you, but as I say have a look at tape based systems, it might be a similar style set up in what you need to do.

E.G it needs to insert tape, run/load tape and play the game.

A few things that you could try

-f = full screen (do not put the = full screen just use -f
-L = load I would assume
-run=system -rom=[name]

A couple of systems that I could find, I could not find an Amstrad CPC or reasonably anything close to that, ZX Spectrum might be close to that

I just had a look at retroarch

They have the following cores

PC-8000 - 8800
PC-98
PC-FX

No 6001VX though who knows that might be a waiting game if they ever release a core for this system.

AM is not programming, it is just about finding out the right arguments to make something run.

The emulator obviously needs to have a CLI or command line interface available to be able to get the roms to run correctly, or failing that batch files or .bats

Sadly as this is a system that I am far away from adding to my system, E.G that I have never even heard of it before, then I cannot spend days on something to try and help you out get up and running.

1) I would have to download the emulator
2) I would have to download some roms
3) I would have to spend a day or more trying to get this up and running

As my PC is tied up doing other stuff, and my brain is limited to doing one thing at once, I don't really have the time to do a deep dive on getting this up and running.

I would really suggest looking for the Amstrad CPC as that is tape based or maybe the Sinclair Spectrum and taking a look at the arguments for them as it might give you a better understanding of how tape based systems actually load tapes and run's them.

It might help, it may not, but worth a try

I found this:

https://github.com/eighttails/PC6001VX/blob/master/compatible_rom/basic66-v031/src/basicrom.lst

Its helps??

That is assembly code, it is just programming/deconstruction language and nothing to do with getting the games up and running.

As I am bored it looks like you have short cut keys looking at some of the pictures

So r = rom, a= tape load as it has an _ it may mean CTRL A ALT A or something like that. Sadly because most of the language on the screenshots is Japanese it makes it a lot harder to know what things actually are.

As I said before

As it is tape based it might help to look at cassette or floppy disc based systems

args                 --floppy-drive-0="[romfilename]" --fullscreen --floppy-drive-0-sounds=0 --floppy-drive-speed=100 --floppy-drive-volume-empty=100  --base-dir="C:\attract\EMU\amiga\Configuration"

These are the args for Amiga 500 you do have others, but it shows you the kind of arguments that you need to get games to load.

Go through this little lot http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=503.0

Your link mostly is in Chinese ok it is Japanese after going back so not a good start on that score lol

It will translate just to add, I had a very quick scan but could not find any cli arguments, but as I say it was a very quick scan. As it is a cassette system or seems to be, but try finding a c64 argument and use that as a reference. Anything with tape based systems may help for reference.

I would try [name] or other alternatives remove the "[]"

Also you have "[Rating]"

This is a system that I have not tried, or even know about but your args are worrying

I just had a look at my setup I usually have name, I do have "[Romfilename]" but usually when it is retro arch apart from that it is [name]

p6t,p6,cas

MOUNT TAPE IMAGE (FOR LOAD ONLY)

d88

MOUNT DISK IMAGE TO DRIVE 1

rom,bin

MOUNT EXTENDED ROM IMAGE

dds

READ SAVE FILES ANYWHERE

ddr

read replay data files

bas,txt

read the batting agency file

Jedione is the best person to speak to on this.

What I understand is that the module does not work under a normal build of AM, you need AM + to get this to work, but as I say he is the best person to speak to.

Hi, I hope the project continues.
Wouldn't it be possible for you to upload it to test it so that we can test it to see that everything works well? In this way, if we find errors, they can be corrected

It will be uploaded when it is uploaded. So until then you don't need to bump up a thread expecting the impossible. The skin creator has not been on for a while, and as he says he is busy in real life.

Patience is a virtue, if he wanted to upload a beta version then he would have done ages ago.

Mark
