Themes / 35 old pc history - info
« on: August 29, 2023, 04:59:07 AM »
Hi. This theme is for android, not an attract mode, so is a bit of topic but it has some useful info you can use in attractmode theme, that's why i post it here.
I created something like a history of old pc in chronological order with info for every pc, like when it was created, in what nm was its cpu, memory, how many games it has etc. I searched a lot to find all those info to do this. The info for every pc are in the comments of the youtube videos, so you can copy past it to your theme if you need those info.

A little info. I have many themes in attractmode, but recently i try to move my collection to android also. I used for this reset_collection frontended and retroarch as the emulator which it use to play the games. The Video is from nvidia shield connected to my 65 inch tv.
But i also have them to my galaxy tab s8 ultra, with a custom gamepad and a custom magnetic rotating base. I hope attractmode to go to android some time in the future as it's much better.
Anyway here are the 2 videos.

If you can do it from command prompt then you can do it with attract mode.
I know that.. I don't know if it can be done..

I have it in android, i got used to it, so i wanted to have it in attract mode in windows. Although it's a very easy theme, i haven't find a similar theme in attract mode. It needs to play videosnap of the game, and show description of every game. I already have all the data (videosnaps, snaps, description of game etc). If there is a similar theme and haven't noticed it please inform me.
This is a description of the theme: https://youtu.be/42ocJTFhBqc
Thanks!

I suppose there isn't, but I'm not 100% sure so i wanted to ask others just to be sure.
I have a monitor connected to both windows pc and Xbox one. I could add to my attract mode theme an Xbox one category with my games, video etc. What i would like to do, is selecting a game to attract mode , somehow to communicate with Xbox, trigger it to run the game IN XBOX. I have the Xbox connected to the same monitor with pc, so it could be like Xbox one is another emulator from attract mode..
Thanks,

I'll post some probably helpful youtube videos here. The idea is to see the video and choose which you want.

100 exclusive snes games:
https://youtu.be/rrcb9LAFCPs

sega master system exclusive games (but many of them are included in mame, so I don't know why the video say "exclusive")
https://youtu.be/xEk-ARNW18E

40 best sega genesis exclusive games not included in snes
https://youtu.be/TpnvyUgg63U

25 most gorgeous psx1 exclusive 2d
https://youtu.be/D9Nk2lTRD5Y

100 psx1 2d games (playlist. It has video of all the game)
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjbl-nLonKWrH4QBxZMF3QPbNhfHhkqgG

100 Japan exclusive sega saturn games
https://youtu.be/dPWFbVkKcaM

From all of them we can create a list.
Any other system i should include for 2d games?

Interesting concept. I understand what you're trying to do but not how you want to approach making it happen. The easiest way would be to just put the unique games in your collection and the romlists will only contain unique games to that platform/system. You can also use filtering or tagging if you have more than unique games in your collection.

At any rate, if you're simply asking how to figure out which games for which system, these are couple of examples that should help and I think you'll find the rest by simply changing the system name in the search.
I Googled "nes exclusive games list" and this was in the top 5 results https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Nintendo_Entertainment_System-only_games
I Googled "snes exclusive games list" and this was in the top 5 results https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System-only_games
I Googled "sms exclusive games list" and this was in the top 5 results https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Master_System-only_games
I Googled "genesis exclusive games list" and this was in the top 5 results https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Sega_Genesis-only_games

I don't know if these list are 100% accurate but at a glance they looked pretty good.

How will you decide which system rom you will use when it's not an arcade game but was release on multiple other systems? Will you just not include these games?

Thanks my friend. Your links are helpful although i almost did the same Google search like you.. But i still wasn't sure if many of them are also in arcade, because i try some and search. In some cases i found similar or exactly the same in mame.. But i suppose most should be unique.
I also thought of the problem that some of them may be in multiple consoles. I suppose I'll choose the one it looks better or choose random..
Anyway that's why i asked to see if someone has already created a list for this, so to make things easier.
If anyone has done it, post your list, as i believe many wants to do something similar.
I also find out that there are many 2d psx1 games. I think i found a video in YouTube with 100 better (most of them was 2d). I target 2d, because if you want 3d games you probably can play them in playstation or Xbox.
This is for keeping all the old 2d games.
Anyway if i start it and create a list, i will post it here.
Thanks again.

I already have a big collection of mame (arcade) unique original games.
I wanted to add 2d games from old consoles (snes, sega genesis, psx1, etc) but i don't want to add games that i already have them in mame (arcade).
Is there any list for this? I have searched a lot in Google without success.. Im trying to create a library of almost all old 2d unique (not have same game in different platforms) games..
Thanks,

Hi. A little of topic probably but perhaps it is interesting for some : In this video i describe how you can create those (and other) pc from paper by just printing it with a simple printer and cut the paper. I have download link for the prints. Many ideas can be made. For example cut the paper and glue it in plastic (3d printing) or wood and creating a real pc and put the electronics (emulator) inside. Also you can modify the prints and change the size as you wish.

In this mostly oftopic video, i describe how i created my arcade gamepad and showing reset collection, an Android frontended which i use when i haven windows pc to use attract mode, and is the best i found in android.

I'm also interested in improving the performance if we can find a way. Thinking about what is different between the original multi-cab and this flex version, but main thing that comes to mind is the shader that does the wheel background. I could see that one causing poor performance, so I'd be curious how much improvement you see if you turn that feature off. The other thing that comes to mind is the shader that draws the cabinet top, depending on your aspect ratio -- do you run this in portrait or landscape?

It's nice to see the pinball feature is useful to somebody other than myself. 8)
Ok i found the "guilty". Its :Crt glow shaders. I changed everything one by one. Although everything seems to have a small reduction in performance (so if you don't use anything will be the fastest possible - probability someone with worst hardware might find it useful -), but crt glow shaders does an huge lugginess.. I would say 20-30 times reduction speed than all other options together :). You press a key to show next game in cabin and it shows it 2 sec later... By disabling this its fast enough for me.
I run it in landscape (65 inch tv). It looks wonderful :)
Thanks again for all.

sosimple, my 4k system runs this theme fine, but it's using a fairly modern GPU (Nvidia 1660ti). What does your CPU/GPU hardware look like? And when do you notice the lag? I assume it's when scrolling through the game titles?

gsm2021's suggestion is good advice for testing different aspect ratios, but I don't think it will help in this case because it is simulating different aspect ratios but still based on the current resolution.

I'm trying to think of what would cause the most slowdown. Most likely suspect is the shaders, which are used by several settings:
  • Enable CRT screen glow shader
  • Enable CRT bloom or lottes shaders
  • Enable lighted marquee effect
  • Enable wheel background
  • Text glow on "Show game information" and music player
  • (the top drawn above the cabinet for narrow resolutions)
You could test whether disabling any/all of those makes a significant improvement. Perhaps some of those are more of a GPU burden than others.
As you already have noticed, i don't have good gpu. I use a mini pc i7 10710u (6 core 12 threat) with it's internal gpu.. 16 giga ram. I also test your theme to a i5 7200u laptop (also the same internal gpu) and it is working fine there but the resolution of the screen is HD there. Also if i set the tv resolution to HD it works fine. Actually you can't tell what is lugging as it is everything lug, even the videosnap i think.. I already have set a button to change aspects ratio (i think this is what is changing, not the actual resolution) but no improvement.. I'll try to change some things to see if things go better. Until now whatever i changed, may improve things but not much. The solution would be if theming has the option to change resolution. I think it haven't until now.
At past i had written a script in autoit which changed the resolution - run attract mode - wait until attract mode stops working - changed resolution back.  But i doesn't know where i have it now. I can always re written it but i need to remember some coding..
I'll posted if/when I'll do it again although it may be a non universal solution as changing resolution may not work in all monitors by same code.
I actually using your theme instead of original at the arcade multicub mostly because cabinet are a bit bigger in your theme and i like it more. Otherwise its almost the same for my use. The original doesn't lugg in 4k.
(i also like it better because i have pinball games).

Thanks for this amazing mod. But i have a small problem. I run it in a 4k 65 inch tv (3840 x 2160 pixel) ..  ;D
The original theme (the arcade multicub) is working perfectly. This one is extremely luggy in this resolution. If i first change tv resolution to HD then it works fine, without the lug. I can create an autoit script to change resolution before run attract mode, and restore it after but it isn't the best approach.. If you or anybody has any idea how to change the resolution to something lower (hd for example) it would be fine.
Thanks anyway.

Thanks for the reply! I cant figure out what is the problem then.. For the games that there isn't a fanart , I got a black backround. What is the name of static image of an Arcade hall ? Is it "bkg_base.jpg" ?  I suppose it doesn't find this jpg. What folder should be in?
Edit I tried At-The-Arcade Flex also , same problem.
I also copy bkg_base.jpg from theme folder to fanart folder (where all fanart jpg are and working) just in case but no luck..
I tried in 2 pc. Thanks,

Try converting bkg_base.jpg to png format, delete the jpg and try again.
What OS are you using?
Windows 10. I'll try it now..
Edit..
It worked!! Many many thanks! Perhaps in main theme should be in png also, so no one has this problem.

I have select in options of the theme, to show as background artwork photo of every game. Some games doesnt have artwork photo, so it shows black background to them. Is there any way (it would be cool this option) when there isn't artwork, to show the live wallpaper of the original at the arcade wallpaper, as background.
Thanks,

If you mean that you have set the layout option 'Select background image' to 'Fanart' or 'Flyer', it doesn't show a black image when there is no game art available - it just shows a static image of an Arcade hall (just double checked it).
