Failed to open X11 display

Hi, guys

I'm using Retropie on Raspbian Stretch without the DE, for a personal project. It's working fine with EmulationStation, etc, but I want it running attractmode so I installed it with no errors along the process.
The only problem is that when i run "attract" it gives me the following error:

Failed to open X11 display: make sure the DISPLAY environment variable is set correctly

I've googled for days, but I can't the problem. Can someone help me?

Compiling AM with regular SFML won't run AM without X11 on a Pi. To run AM without X11 you must compile "sfml-pi" before compiling AM. If you want to run AM with X11 you must install X11.
